Bacon Cheese Ball
Description
The Bacon Cheese Ball is made by blending cream cheese and mayonnaise, then mixing in crumbled bacon, scallions, dill, and black pepper for seasoning. After chilling to firm up, it is rolled in sliced almonds to give a crisp coating. The resulting texture balances creamy interior with crunchy almonds on the outside. Its smoky notes come from the bacon, which complements the mild herb flavor from the dill and sharpness from scallions.
This cheese ball is commonly served with crackers, making it convenient for entertaining or casual snacking. Its shape and coating make it easy to portion and visually appealing on appetizer platters.
For variations, pecans can be used instead of almonds if preferred, but nuts should be added just before serving to maintain their freshness. The cheese ball will keep in an airtight container refrigerated for up to two weeks, allowing for advance preparation.
Ingredients
- 8 ounce cream cheese light
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 5 lices Bacon crumbled
- 1 tablespoon scallions white part only
- ½ teaspoon dill
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup almonds sliced
Instructions
- Blend cream cheese and mayo together
- Mix in the scallions, dill, pepper and bacon.
- Spread out a piece of plastic wrap and spoon to mixture onto it and fold the plastic wrap around the mixture.
- Form it into a ball.
- Refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours.
- Remove from wrap and roll in sliced almonds. I find it easiest to put the ball on a plate of almonds then turn it over to coat the other side. Then roll the sides.
- Serve with crackers.
Notes
- Use chopped pecans instead of almonds for a different flavor and texture coating.
- Roll the cheese ball in nuts only right before serving for the best crunch.
- Store the cheese ball in an airtight container in the refrigerator; it keeps well for up to 14 days.
