Bacon Ranch Green Beans

Bacon Ranch Green Beans feature sautéed green beans combined with cooked onions, mushrooms, bacon, ranch seasoning, and topped with crispy fried onions and fresh parsley. The dish offers a blend of tender vegetables, smoky bacon, and creamy ranch flavor, highlighted by crunchy textures, making it a flavorful side that complements various main courses.

Description

This recipe for Bacon Ranch Green Beans starts with cooking minced red onion and sliced mushrooms in butter until translucent and lightly browned. Separately, trimmed green beans are cooked in water over medium-high heat until crisp-tender, then seasoned with salt and pepper. The cooked onions and mushrooms are returned to the pan along with additional butter and ranch powder to coat the vegetables evenly.

The flavor combines the earthiness of mushrooms and sweetness of onions with the savory smokiness from crumbled bacon. Ranch seasoning adds a creamy, herbaceous element, while the topping of crispy French fried onions and fresh parsley introduces a contrasting crunch and freshness. The method creates tender yet textured green beans with rich layers of flavor.

This side dish works well with a variety of entrees, adding a warm, savory vegetable component to the meal. It can be served immediately to maintain the contrast between crisp and tender textures.

The recipe can be doubled for larger groups. To prepare ahead, cook the vegetables up to a day in advance and reheat them with the butter and ranch powder shortly before serving to refresh the flavors.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound green beans trimmed
  • 1 red onion minced, small
  • 8 ounces white mushroom cleaned and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2-3 teaspoons ranch powder or more to taste
  • 1/3 cup Bacon crumbled
  • 1/3 cup French fried onions
  • 2 tablespoons parsley minced, fresh
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pan over medium heat melt 1 tablespoon of butter.
  2. Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes or until onion is translucent. Add the mushrooms and cook for 5 more minutes or until mushrooms have started to brown. Season vegetables with salt and pepper to taste. Remove the mushrooms and onion from pan and set aside.
  3. Place the green beans in the pan with 1/4 cup water. Turn up the heat to medium-high. Cook, stirring ocasionally, until green beans are crisp tender and water has evaporated, about 5 minutes. Season green beans with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Put the onions and mushrooms back in the pan. Add the remaining tablespoon of butter and 2 teaspoons of ranch powder. Taste and add more ranch powder until you get to desired flavor level.
  5. Stir to coat all the vegetables evenly with the butter and ranch powder. Cook for 2 minutes more.
  6. Pour the vegetables onto a serving platter and top with the french fried onions, bacon and parsley. Serve immediately.

Notes
