Bacon Wrapped Apples Recipe

Report
Bacon Wrapped Apples offer a combination of crisp apple slices and smoky, crispy bacon enhanced with a drizzle of hot honey. The baking technique on a wire rack ensures even cooking and crisp bacon edges. This dish balances sweet and savory flavors and works well as a snack or appetizer when served warm. The choice of apples affects the texture, with varieties like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith providing a firm bite to contrast the bacon.

Description

The Bacon Wrapped Apples Recipe involves slicing crisp apples, wrapping them in pieces of smoked bacon, and baking them until the bacon crisps fully. A small amount of hot honey is drizzled before baking, adding a subtle heat and sweetness complementing the apple and bacon. The baking is done on a wire rack set over a foil-lined sheet, which allows the bacon to cook evenly and become crisp all around. Each wrapped apple slice is secured with a toothpick for easy serving.

The resulting dish features tender yet firm baked apple slices contrasted by the smoky, crunchy bacon. The slight heat from the honey glaze adds a pleasant warming note without overpowering the natural apple sweetness and bacon savoriness. The combination offers a layered texture from the crisp apples and bacon edges with a softer apple interior.

This recipe is well suited for serving as a savory-sweet hors d'oeuvre or snack, best enjoyed hot or warm. It pairs nicely as a side or appetizer where sweet and salty flavors are desired. Selecting apples with firm flesh like Opal, Honeycrisp, or Granny Smith helps maintain a slight crunch under the bacon.

Using a wire or foil rack to keep the bacon elevated is essential for even cooking to avoid sogginess. Slicing each bacon strip into thirds ensures the bacon covers the apple slices evenly. The hot honey drizzle can be adjusted to taste for mild or stronger spicy sweetness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 apple crisp
  • 12 oz Bacon I used Jimmy Dean Applewood Smoked
  • 1 tbsp hot honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a large baking sheet with tinfoil. Place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet it
  2. Use an apple core to remove the pit from the apples. Evenly slice each apple in half, then quarters. Each quarter should make 4 even slices of apples so you have 16 slices total between the two apples.
  3. Use kitchen shears to cut every strip of bacon into 3 even pieces.
  4. Wrap every apple slice with one cut piece of bacon and place on the wire rack.
  5. Once all 32 apples are wrapped in bacon and on the wire rack, drizzle with a small amount of hot honey.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes or until bacon is crispy.
  7. Pierce with a small toothpick and transfer to a serving plate. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use a wire rack or a homemade foil rack to allow bacon to crisp evenly on all sides.
  • Choose crisp apple varieties such as Opal, Honeycrisp, or Granny Smith for best texture.
  • Cut bacon strips into thirds so each apple slice is evenly wrapped.
  • Drizzle hot honey sparingly to balance sweet and spicy flavors according to preference.
