Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

Bacon Wrapped Asparagus features bundles of thick asparagus stalks tightly wrapped with thin slices of bacon, brushed with a seasoned butter mix, and baked until the bacon crisps and the asparagus remains firm. The combination delivers a smoky, savory bite with a slight sweetness from brown sugar and hints of garlic powder.

Description

This recipe calls for thick asparagus stalks to maintain a satisfying texture after baking. Each bundle is wrapped with a slice of regular cut bacon (not thick cut) to ensure even cooking and crispiness without overcooking the vegetable. The butter mixture, spiced with garlic powder, brown sugar, and black pepper, adds a balanced savory-sweet glaze during roasting.

Baked at 400°F for 15-20 minutes, the bacon crisps up around the asparagus, locking in flavor and moisture. This method results in a pleasing contrast between the tender-crisp vegetable and the rich, crispy bacon exterior. Parsley sprinkled on top adds a touch of freshness and color.

This side dish complements hearty roasts or grilled meats and works well as a finger food for gatherings. Thicker asparagus and regular bacon cuts are essential for texture balance; thinner stalks may get too soft during cooking, and thick-cut bacon may require pre-cooking to avoid undercooked centers.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 lb asparagus trimmed, thick stalks
  • 4 lices Bacon do not use thick cut
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon parsley optional, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Divide the asparagus stalks into 4 bundles. Tightly wrap one slice of bacon around each bundle.
  3. In a small bowl mix together the butter, garlic powder, brown sugar and pepper.
  4. Arrange the asparagus bundles on a baking sheet and drizzle the butter mixture over the top.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until bacon is crispy. Serve, sprinkled with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use thicker asparagus stalks to prevent mushiness during baking.
  • Opt for regular cut bacon rather than thick cut to ensure it crisps properly before asparagus overcooks.
  • If using thick-cut bacon, consider par-cooking it slightly before wrapping the asparagus.
