Bacon Wrapped Brussels Sprouts
Description
This recipe involves trimming and halving Brussels sprouts depending on size, then wrapping each one tightly with a small piece of bacon. The bacon is brushed with maple syrup before roasting on a parchment-lined sheet at high heat, which crisps the bacon and caramelizes the syrup. The roasting time is about 25-30 minutes until the bacon is crisp and the sprouts are cooked but not mushy.
Combined, the smoky bacon, sweet maple glaze, and earthy Brussels sprouts produce a harmonious flavor profile. Wrapping the bacon around each sprout ensures even cooking and a good bacon-to-vegetable ratio. The maple syrup adds a sticky, glossy finish that enhances the dish's appeal.
This dish works well as a warm appetizer or a savory side at holiday meals or gatherings. Adjusting spice additions like cayenne or sriracha on the syrup before baking can customize the heat level. These can be prepped in advance, refrigerated up to 48 hours, and then baked fresh before serving.
Smaller sprouts roast faster, so checking early helps avoid overcooking. Cooking in an air fryer at 400°F is an optional method, reducing time to about 10-13 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Bacon
- 1 ½ pounds Brussels sprouts
- ½ cup maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Wash & trim Brussels sprouts, discard any discolored leaves. If they are large, cut them in half.
- Cut each slice of bacon into thirds.
- Wrap 1 slice of bacon around each sprout and place them seam side down on the baking sheet. If using smaller whole Brussels sprouts, you can secure the bacon with a toothpick if needed.
- Brush the top of the bacon with the maple syrup.
- Bake 25-30 minutes or until bacon is crisp and brussels sprouts are tender.
Notes
- Maple syrup can be spiced with cayenne, sriracha, or red pepper flakes for added heat.
- Prepare up to 48 hours ahead and refrigerate; bake just before serving.
- Air fryer method: 400°F for 10-13 minutes until bacon is crisp.
- Watch smaller Brussels sprouts closely to prevent overcooking.
