Bacon wrapped little smokies

Report
Bacon wrapped little smokies combine small smoked sausages wrapped in bacon, coated with brown sugar, then baked to achieve a sweet and savory bite with caramelized glaze. The balance of crispy bacon and the smokie's smoky flavor makes this a popular party appetizer or snack. Baking on foil simplifies cleanup, and the brown sugar coating adds a sticky, crisp texture that contrasts with the juicy sausage inside.

Description

Bacon wrapped little smokies involve wrapping each small smoked sausage with a third of a bacon strip secured with a toothpick. After rolling, they are dipped in brown sugar to coat, then baked on a foil-lined tray at a high temperature to crisp the bacon and caramelize the sugar. The bacon overlaps around the smokies, ensuring a good coverage and rendering to a crisp texture. Flipping midway ensures even baking on all sides. The resulting appetizer offers a mix of sweet, salty, and smoky flavors with a pleasantly sticky surface.

The final bite features smoky, juicy sausages embraced by a crispy, caramelized bacon shell enhanced by the brown sugar’s sweetness. This combination results in an appealing contrast of textures and flavors that works well as finger food for social gatherings, tailgates, or casual snacks.

Baking on foil not only provides easier cleanup but also promotes even cooking. Letting the appetizers cool slightly before serving helps the sugar glaze set, making them easier to handle.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 package little smokies
  • 1 package Bacon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Cut the bacon into thirds.
  3. Roll one piece of bacon around one little smokie. The bacon will overlap.
  4. Then secure the bacon with a toothpick.
  5. Continue doing this to all of the little smokies.
  6. In a shallow bowl or dish pour in the brown sugar.
  7. Dip the little smokies (that is now covered in bacon) in the brown sugar to cover.
  8. Place them on a cookie sheet that is lined with foil. Trust me, you want foil to cover the pan for easy clean up.
  9. Bake for 10 minutes. Then flip them over and back for another 10 minutes.
  10. Remove from over and allow them to cool slightly. Place on a serving dish and watch them disappear.

Notes

  • Use foil to line the baking sheet for easier cleanup after baking.
  • Allow the wrapped smokies to cool briefly after baking so the sugar coating hardens slightly, making them easier to serve and eat.
