Bacon Wrapped Roasted Cabbage Wedges

This dish features cabbage wedges wrapped in thick-cut smoky bacon sprinkled with Parmesan cheese and optionally garlic powder, then roasted until the cabbage is tender and the bacon is crisp. The combination offers a blend of smoky, savory bacon flavor with softened, slightly sweet cabbage and a cheesy accent from the Parmesan.

Description

Bacon Wrapped Roasted Cabbage Wedges are made by quartering cabbage and wrapping each wedge with two strips of thick-cut smoky bacon, coated on the bacon side with Parmesan cheese to help it adhere. A light dusting of garlic powder can be added for extra aroma and flavor. Baking at 350°F until the cabbage is soft and the bacon is cooked results in a dish balancing the hearty texture of cabbage with crisp, flavorful bacon.

The smoky bacon flavor permeates the cabbage during roasting, mellowing the cabbage's bite and adding savory depth. This side dish can complement roasted meats or vegetarian meals needing a substantial vegetable accompaniment.

The recipe is easily adjustable to serve eight or more people by increasing ingredient quantities. Nutritional values will vary with brands used.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/2 cabbage quartered, small or medium
  • 8 lices Bacon thick cut, smoky
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder divided between the cabbage wedges, optional

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Sprinkle the bacon with Parmesan cheese ( because it sticks to the bacon while it will fall off the cabbage!). Sprinkle with the garlic powder if desired.
  3. Wrap 2 strips of bacon around each cabbage wedge ( with the cheese sprinkled side IN towards the cabbage, not facing out) . Place on a large baking sheet, with space between each wedge.
  4. Bake in the oven until the cabbage is soft, from 35-40 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven and enjoy!

Notes

  • The recipe can be scaled to make 8 servings by adjusting ingredient amounts accordingly.
  • Nutritional values will vary depending on the bacon and cheese brands used.
