Bacon Wrapped Shrimp

Bacon Wrapped Shrimp combines large peeled shrimp wrapped in halved bacon slices, brushed with a maple syrup and soy sauce glaze, then broiled until the bacon crisps and shrimp cook through. The mixture of smoky bacon and the subtle sweetness of maple syrup creates a balanced glaze that caramelizes well under the broiler. This method works particularly well with large shrimp that can hold the bacon securely without overcooking. The shrimp finish with a crisp bacon exterior and tender, juicy interior, enhanced with a sprinkle of fresh parsley for a touch of color and freshness.

Description

The Bacon Wrapped Shrimp recipe features large shrimp wrapped individually with half slices of regular-cut bacon, secured by toothpicks. A glaze made from maple syrup, soy sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper is brushed over before broiling. Broiling crisps the bacon and cooks the shrimp through in about 10 to 15 minutes, with an additional glaze application halfway through cooking to build flavor and caramelization.

The result is shrimp that remain tender inside while the bacon crisps evenly on the outside. The maple and soy glaze adds a subtle sweet and savory coating, complementing the bacon's saltiness. The addition of freshly chopped parsley at the end brings color and a mild herbal note.

This dish serves well as an appetizer or part of a main course. Leaving tails on enhances presentation and provides a convenient handle when eating. Selection of large shrimp (such as colossal or extra jumbo) helps maintain texture and prevents overcooking, as they hold up well under the broiler while bacon crisps.

Choosing regular cut bacon instead of thick cut ensures bacon cooks fully without extended time that might overcook the shrimp. Using cooking spray on the pan prevents sticking and eases cleanup. Toothpicks hold the bacon securely and simplify turning or serving.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 pounds Shrimp deveined and peeled, tails left on, large
  • 1 pound Bacon slices cut in half crosswise
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons parsley chopped
  • cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat the broiler. Coat a sheet pan with cooking spray.
  2. Wrap a slice of bacon around each shrimp and secure with a toothpick. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer on the baking pan.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the maple syrup, soy sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Brush half the mixture over the top of each of the shrimp.
  4. Broil for 10-15 minutes, or until bacon is crisp and shrimp are cooked through. Brush the remaining sauce over the shrimp halfway through the cook time.
  5. Sprinkle with parsley, then serve.

Notes

  • Use large shrimp, such as colossal or extra jumbo sizes, for easier bacon wrapping and better cooking results.
  • Keep the tails on shrimp for improved presentation and ease of serving.
  • Use regular-cut bacon slices for even cooking; thick-cut bacon may not cook through properly.
  • Secure the bacon with toothpicks to prevent slipping during broiling.
  • Apply the glaze twice: before and midway through cooking, for better flavor and caramelization.
  • Coat the baking pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
