Bacon Wrapped Smokies
Description
This recipe wraps each Lit'l Smokie sausage with a third of a slice of bacon, placing them in a baking dish in a single layer. A glaze made from melted butter and brown sugar is poured over the assembled smokies, then topped with additional brown sugar to enhance sweetness and create caramelization as it bakes.
Baking starts at 375°F for about 20 minutes, allowing the butter and sugar to melt into the bacon and smoky sausages. Then, increasing the oven temperature to 400°F crisps the bacon edges and thickens the glaze, resulting in a sticky, glossy coating with a balance of smoky, salty, and sweet flavors. The smokies remain juicy under the crisp bacon.
This appetizer is suited for parties or casual gatherings and is best monitored near the end of cooking to reach desired bacon doneness without burning.
