Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Bacon Wrapped Smokies are bite-sized little smokies sausages wrapped in bacon strips coated with a brown sugar and spice mixture, baked until the bacon crisps and caramelizes. The combination of savory smoky sausage and sweet spiced bacon creates a balanced appetizer or party snack with a toasty, slightly sticky exterior. Parsley adds a fresh contrast when sprinkled on top.

Description

This recipe wraps mini smoked sausages, known as little smokies, with thin slices of bacon cut into thirds. Each smokie is rolled in a blend of brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper before baking at 375°F on a greased sheet pan. The sugar mixture caramelizes on the bacon as it crisps, giving a sweet-savory glaze.

The cooking time ensures the bacon becomes crispy without overcooking the smokies inside. Flipping during baking promotes even browning. Using non-thick-cut bacon allows the bacon to cook through at the same pace without toughness or undercooked sections.

These appetizers suit casual entertaining and can be served warm as finger food. Toothpicks hold the bacon in place for easy handling, and parsley adds a touch of color and freshness.

To present elegantly, remove toothpicks before serving. Leaving them in simplifies serving and eating at gatherings.

  5. Place a toothpick through the little smokie to secure the bacon.
  6. Repeat the process with the remaining smokies. Place them all on the sheet pan.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes. Flip the smokies over, then bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until bacon is crispy.
  8. Place the smokies on a serving plate. Remove the toothpicks if desired. Sprinkle with parsley, then serve.

Notes

  • Avoid thick cut bacon as it will not crisp properly within the baking time.
  • Toothpicks may be left in for easy serving or removed for a neater presentation.
