Bacon Wrapped Steak Bites
Description
This recipe features cross-rib steak cubes wrapped individually with strips of bacon secured by toothpicks. The steak pieces are cut to bite-sized portions, making them ideal for easy snacking or party servings. Wrapping in bacon delivers a rich, smoky fat coating that crisps in the oven, locking in the meat’s moisture.
Baking at a high temperature crisps the bacon, then turning off the heat and allowing the bites to rest in the residual oven warmth improves crispness without overcooking the steak. The balsamic vinegar or reduction drizzled over adds a subtle acidic brightness that balances the fat of the bacon and richness of the beef.
Thin bacon is recommended for quicker crisping and easier wrapping. Cooking longer may be necessary with thicker bacon. Using parchment paper on the tray keeps cleanup easy and prevents grease from leaking. The method can be adapted by pre-cooking the bacon for ultra-crisp texture before wrapping the steak.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Bacon
- 2 tablespoon balsamic vinegar or 3 tbs balsamic reduction
- 0.6 kg cross-rib steak boneless
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425F
- Cut the bacon into thirds using scissors.
- Chop the steak into bite-sized pieces (beef cubes).
- Tightly wrap each piece of bacon around a piece of steak and secure it with a toothpick.
- Place them all on a parchment paper-lined baking tray.
- Drizzle the balsamic reduction over them.
- Bake for 12 -14 minutes.
- Turn the oven off and let them sit for 8-10 minutes for the bacon to crisp up.
- Remove from the oven and pat the steak bites dry with paper towel to remove the grease.
Notes
- Thin bacon strips cook faster; thicker bacon may require longer bake time.
- Allow the steak bites to rest in the oven after baking to enhance bacon crispness without toughening steak.
- Balsamic reduction adds flavor but can be omitted in favor of simple salt and pepper seasoning.
- Use parchment paper to catch excess grease and simplify cleanup.
- Pre-cooking bacon briefly before wrapping is optional for extra crispy bacon texture.
