Baked Brie with Cranberries & Pecans
Description
The recipe requires spreading whole berry cranberry sauce over an 8-12 ounce wheel of Brie cheese. A mixture of pecans and maple syrup is spread atop the cranberry layer. The Brie is placed on a parchment-lined baking sheet and warmed in a 350°F oven for 12-15 minutes, until the cheese is just beginning to melt. After baking, it rests briefly before serving, allowing the flavors to meld.
The combination brings together the smooth, creamy texture of melted Brie with the tart sweetness of cranberries and the crunch and richness of maple-glazed pecans. The edible rind on the Brie remains intact. A microwave method is also suggested for faster preparation, including toasting nuts in a skillet and microwaving the Brie topped with cranberry sauce before adding pecans and maple syrup.
Ingredients
- 1 wheel Brie cheese 8-12 ounces
- ¼ cup cranberry sauce or preserves, whole berry
- ¼ cup pecans
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Spread cranberry sauce over brie, combine pecans and maple syrup and spread on top.
- Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the cheese is starting to melt. Remove from oven and allow to cool at least 10 minutes.
Notes
- Homemade cranberry sauce works well and can be frozen for later use in this recipe.
- For a microwave version, toast pecans in a dry skillet before assembling and microwave the Brie topped with cranberry sauce for about 1.5 minutes.
- The rind on Brie does not need to be removed and is edible.
