Baked Brie with Honey
Description
This recipe begins by scoring the top of an 8-ounce double-cream brie wheel, allowing the infused flavors to penetrate the cheese during baking. Honey, finely diced garlic, and red pepper flakes are drizzled and sprinkled over the scored surface, lending sweetness, pungency, and mild heat. Baking warms the cheese until soft but still holding shape, with timing adjusted based on whether the cheese is room temperature or cold.
Once baked, the brie is topped with fresh thyme leaves and chopped pistachios, adding herbal aroma and crunchy texture that contrast with the cheese's creaminess. Additional honey drizzled on top reinforces the sweetness and balances the garlic and pepper flavors. Serving suggestions include crusty bread, crackers, prosciutto, and grapes to complement the rich cheese and create a varied appetizer spread.
The recipe yields about six servings, making it appropriate for small gatherings or as a special starter. Nutritional values vary with brands, so the provided calorie estimate acts as a general guide.
Ingredients
Before baking:
- 8 ounces Brie cheese I used Alouette brand, double creme
- 1 tablespoon hot honey
- 2 cloves garlic finely diced
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
After baking:
- 1 tablespoon thyme fresh leaves
- 2 tablespoons pistachio chopped
- 2 tablespoons hot honey
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Place the brie wheel on a parchment lined baking sheet. 8 ounces double creme brie
- Slice 5 slices across the wheel of brie, going down about ¼” inch. Then turn the wheel and make an additional 5 slices across to make criss crosses.
- Drizzle 1 tablespoon of honey over the top of the brie. Then sprinkle with minced garlic and ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes. 1 tablespoon hot honey, 2 cloves garlic, ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- If the brie is at room temperature, bake for about 10 minutes. If it is right from the fridge, bake for 12-15 minutes.
- Top the baked brie with the fresh thyme leaves, chopped pistachios, then drizzle with additional honey. 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves, 2 tablespoons chopped pistachios, 2 tablespoons hot honey
- Serve alongside crusty bread, crackers, prosciutto and grapes.
Notes
- Slicing the brie allows flavors to infuse the cheese throughout during baking.
- Adjust baking time depending on whether the brie is at room temperature or chilled to achieve a soft center.
- Serve with crusty bread, crackers, cured meats, and fresh fruit to complement the baked cheese.
