Baked Brie with Maple Apples and Pecans

Baked Brie topped with sautéed maple-glazed apples and toasted pecans combines creamy, sweet, and nutty flavors. The Brie wheel is warmed until molten, enveloped by tender spiced apples, crunchy pecans, and a drizzle of boiled maple syrup. This assembly creates a rich appetizer served warm, ideal with crackers or bread.

Description

This recipe centers on a Brie cheese wheel heated until soft and melting, topped with a mixture of apples cooked in butter and brown sugar to soften and caramelize. Toasting pecan halves separately adds a crunchy, nutty contrast. Maple syrup boiled briefly intensifies in flavor and is drizzled over the apples and cheese, creating a sweet glaze that cascades down the sides.

The dish balances creamy, sweet, and nutty elements, with the Brie offering a rich base contrasted by the tender maple-sweetened apples and crunchy toasted nuts. Baking is done at 350°F, loosely covered, until the cheese feels soft to the touch, indicating it is warm and gooey inside.

Serve this warm with crackers or bread to scoop up the mixture. Adjust baking times depending on the initial temperature of the Brie. Using spiced pecans can add extra complexity. This appetizer suits gatherings where a rich, shareable warm cheese offering is desired.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 45 pecan halves
  • 1 apple peeled and cut into 1/2 inch dice, SweeTango variety
  • 2 Tbsp butter unsalted
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 16 ounce Brie cheese
  • 1 cup pure maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Spread out the pecans in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for about 12 minutes, stirring once or twice, until fragrant. Set aside.
  3. Melt the butter in a small saucepan and add the brown sugar, stir until dissolved. Add the apples and cook, stirring often, for 5 minutes. Set aside.
  4. Put the wheel of Brie in the center of your baking dish. Chop a few of the pecans for garnish, and arrange the others around the outer edge of the cheese, in 2 layers. Spoon the apples into the center, and arrange a few around the perimeter of the cheese. Top the apples with the chopped pecans.
  5. Heat the maple syrup in a small sauce pan until boiling and boil for 5 minutes.
  6. Drizzle the maple syrup over the apples, it will spill down the cheese and onto the sides.
  7. Cover loosely with foil and bake for about 30 minutes, or until everything is hot and the cheese is molten.
  8. Serve immediately with crackers or bread.

Notes

  • Baking time varies based on whether Brie starts cold or at room temperature; test doneness by touching the cheese to feel if it is soft.
  • For additional flavor, consider using spiced pecans instead of plain toasted pecans.
