Baked Caesar Chicken
Description
Baked Caesar Chicken features thin boneless, skinless chicken breasts seasoned lightly and covered in a thick layer of creamy Caesar dressing. Provolone cheese slices are layered on top to add mild, melty richness beneath a crunchy, buttery crust made from crushed Caesar-style croutons mixed with melted butter. The dish is baked at 375˚F until the chicken is cooked through and the crouton topping is golden brown, resulting in a combination of tender chicken and a crisp, flavorful crust.
The texture contrasts between the creamy dressing and cheese, along with the buttery crunch from croutons, deliver a satisfying bite with familiar Caesar salad flavors in a warm entree form. This recipe works well served immediately, offering a different take on classic Caesar salad ingredients transformed into a poultry dish.
Using creamy Caesar dressing rather than vinaigrette is important for this recipe to achieve the right consistency and flavor balance. Adjusting the chicken cut into halves or using tenders can speed cooking and serving. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for several days or frozen for longer storage, making this a convenient dish to prepare ahead.
Monitor the browning of the croutons during baking; if they get too dark, loosely cover with foil to prevent overbaking. Garnishing with parsley is optional to add color and freshness to the presentation.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs chicken breast boneless, skinless, thin
- 6 tbsp caesar dressing creamy
- 6 oz provolone cheese sliced
- 1 cup croutons caesar style
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Place the chicken breast flat in a large baking dish. Season the chicken with salt and pepper.
- Spread 1-2 tbsp, or a nice thick layer, of creamy caesar dressing over each chicken breast.
- Place the sliced provolone over the chicken to cover.
- Crush the croutons to crumbs, then melt 1 tbsp of butter and mix the croutons with it to coat.
- Spread the crouton crumbs over the cheese. Then bake the dish on the middle rack at 375˚F for 20-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the crumbs are golden brown. If the top of the crumbs become too browned, loosely cover with foil for the remainder of the cook time.
- Garnish with parsley if desired. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
Notes
- Use creamy Caesar dressing for proper flavor and texture; avoid vinaigrette dressings for this recipe.
- Chicken can be cut into halves or tenders to reduce cooking time and facilitate easier serving.
- Leftover chicken stores well in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or freezes for up to a month.
- Watch the croutons while baking; cover with foil if they become too brown to prevent burning.
