Baked Chicken Burger with Basil Sauce
Description
The recipe starts by gently pounding chicken breast to an even thickness for uniform baking. The chicken is coated first with plain flour, then dipped in beaten egg, and finally coated with breadcrumbs made from blitzed whole wheat bread. Baking at a high temperature cooks the chicken evenly while the breadcrumb coating turns lightly crisp. Cheese slices are added near the end of baking to melt.
The basil sauce combines Greek yogurt, crushed garlic, lemon juice, fresh basil, black pepper, and sea salt, creating a tangy, herby complement to the savory chicken. Assembled with fresh lettuce and tomato, the burger balances crisp textures and creamy sauce with the tender chicken.
This burger can be enjoyed as a wholesome lunch or dinner option offering a homemade alternative to fried chicken burgers. The basil sauce brings freshness and moisture without heaviness.
To vary the texture, panko breadcrumbs may be used for extra crispness. You can swap chicken breast for boneless skinless thighs for juicier results. For a low-carb version, omit the buns and use large lettuce leaves to wrap the burger. Tenderizing the chicken ensures even cooking and juiciness.
