Baked Chicken Nuggets with Honey Mustard

Baked Chicken Nuggets with Honey Mustard feature boneless, skinless chicken thigh pieces coated in a mixture of panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. After dipping in melted butter to help the coating stick, they bake to a lightly browned, crisp exterior while remaining tender inside. Paired with a homemade honey mustard dipping sauce, this recipe delivers a flavorful, crunchy chicken snack or meal component.

Description

This recipe combines chicken thigh chunks coated in a seasoned breadcrumb and Parmesan mixture. The chicken pieces are first dipped in melted butter to adhere the coating evenly, then arranged on a foil-lined baking sheet and sprinkled with additional crumb mixture. Baking at 400°F for about 30 minutes ensures a golden crust and thoroughly cooked chicken.

The accompanying dipping sauce blends honey, yellow mustard, and Dijon mustard, whisked together to balance sweetness and tang. The crispy exterior and juicy interior of the chicken nuggets paired with the sweet and tangy sauce offer a satisfying contrast in texture and flavor.

Boneless skinless chicken breasts can be substituted, and variations such as grainy or spicy brown mustard in the dipping sauce are possible. Baking time may vary depending on chicken piece size and oven conditions. These nuggets provide a versatile dish suitable for casual dinners or snack occasions.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 ½ cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese finely grated
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • chicken thigh cut into 1 1/2 to 2-inch pieces, boneless skinless, about 1.5 pounds
  • ½ cup honey or to taste
  • ¼ cup yellow mustard
  • ¼ cup Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400F, line a baking sheet with aluminum foil (for easier cleanup), and spray with cooking spray; set aside.
  2. To a large, shallow bowl, add the breadcrumbs, parmesan, salt, pepper, and mix to combine; set aside.
  3. To a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter, about 30 seconds on high power.
  4. Dip chicken in butter, then in crumb mixture, patting to help the coating adhere. Place coated chicken on prepared baking sheet.
  5. Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture over chicken.
  6. Bake for about 30 to 33 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through in the center and exterior is lightly golden browned. The bottom sides will become browner than the tops. Cooking time will vary based on exact size of chicken pieces, how heavily the coating was applied, oven and climate variances, etc. Bake until done. While chicken bakes, make the honey mustard dipping sauce.
  7. To a medium bowl add the honey, mustards, whisk to combine, taste and check for flavor balance, adding more honey or mustard to taste if necessary; set aside until ready to serve with chicken.
  8. Nuggets are best warm and fresh but will keep airtight in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 4 months. Honey mustard will keep airtight in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Boneless skinless chicken breasts can replace thighs for a leaner option.
  • Grainy or spicy brown mustard can be substituted for Dijon or yellow mustard in the honey mustard sauce to adjust flavor.
