Baked Chicken Wings

Baked Chicken Wings are coated with a seasoned mix of cornstarch and spices and baked until crisp and browned. The spice blend including smoked and regular paprika, garlic and onion powder, cayenne, and black pepper enhances the mild chicken flavor with a balanced savory and slightly spicy taste. Baking on wire racks allows even cooking and crisp skin without frying.

Description

This recipe begins by preheating the oven to 400°F. Chicken wings are dried and tossed with neutral cooking oil, then coated in a cornstarch seasoning blend that includes smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, black pepper, and salt. The cornstarch helps create a crispy texture as the wings bake.

The wings are placed on wire racks atop a parchment-lined baking sheet to allow air circulation and even baking. They bake for 30 minutes, then are flipped and cooked for an additional 20-25 minutes until the desired browning and crispiness are reached. The spice mix gives an aromatic, mildly spicy flavor with a bit of smokiness.

These wings can be served with sauces or by themselves as a snack or appetizer. Baking avoids oil splatter and cleanup compared to frying while still achieving crisp skin and juicy meat inside.
