Baked Chicken Wings with Honey Lime Sauce

Baked Chicken Wings with Honey Lime Sauce feature seasoned wings boiled briefly, dried, and baked until crisp, then tossed in a buttery honey lime sauce with cilantro and red pepper flakes. The technique ensures tender yet crisp wings with a bright, sweet and tangy finish. This recipe is approachable and flavorful for a satisfying appetizer or main dish.

Description

This recipe produces baked chicken wings that are first simmered in salted water to cook through and then dried thoroughly to prepare for crisp baking. The wings are seasoned with salt, ground coriander, garlic powder, and paprika before baking at high heat for a combined total of about 33 minutes to achieve a crispy exterior.

The honey lime sauce combines melted unsalted butter, honey, freshly chopped cilantro, lime juice and zest, and crushed red pepper flakes. Tossing the hot wings in this fragrant and tangy sauce coats them evenly, balancing savory spices with sweetness and acidity, complemented by a slight heat from the pepper flakes.

These wings can be enjoyed as an appetizer or party dish. The combination of crisp texture and the sticky, bright honey lime glaze provides a pleasing contrast. Garnishing with additional cilantro would enhance the fresh notes. The method inspired by Fifteen Spatulas reflects careful preparation to achieve texture and flavor.

Leftover wings should be stored refrigerated and can be gently reheated without losing crispness. Using fresh lime juice and zest is key to achieving the lively citrus profile in the sauce.

Ingredients

Servings

For the baked chicken wings

  • 2 pounds chicken wings cut in half at joints
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

For the honey lime sauce

  • 3 tablespoons butter melted, unsalted
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon cilantro chopped
  • 1 lime juiced and zested
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes crushed

Instructions

For the baked chicken wings

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F. Fill a large stockpot with water, place on stove over high heat and bring to a boil. Season the water generously with sea salt.
  2. When water is boiling, add the chicken wings to the pot and lower heat to medium-high. Cook for 7 minutes.
  3. Remove the wings with a slotted spoon and place them in a bowl lined with a kitchen towel. Pat and squeeze the wings as dry as you can with another kitchen towel. Transfer them to a large sheet pan and set aside.
  4. In a small bowl, combine salt, ground coriander, garlic powder and paprika. Sprinkle seasoning on top of wings and toss to combine.
  5. Place sheet pan in oven and bake wings for 25 minutes, flip the wings over and bake for another 8 minutes. Remove from oven and toss with sauce.

For the honey lime sauce

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together all ingredients. Pour sauce over baked chicken wings, toss to coat and enjoy!

Notes

  • Pat wings very dry after boiling to ensure they crisp well during baking.
  • Simmer wings in generously salted water for about 7 minutes to partially cook before baking.
  • Use fresh lime juice and zest in the honey lime sauce for optimal brightness.
  • The baked wings can be reheated gently to preserve crispness without drying out.
  • Butter and honey combine to create a sticky glaze that clings well to the wings.
