Baked Chicken with Honey Garlic
Description
This recipe centers on chicken thighs that are prepared by making slits in the meat to enhance marinade absorption. Coated in olive oil and minced garlic, the thighs are then combined with honey, salt, and cayenne pepper to create a flavorful glaze. Baking covered initially allows the chicken to cook evenly and retain moisture, while uncovering near the end helps the skin caramelize into a golden brown, sticky coating.
The flavor profile is marked by sweet honey and pungent garlic, offset by a mild heat from cayenne. The texture remains juicy due to the baking method and marinade penetration. This dish pairs well with simple side dishes like steamed vegetables or rice to balance the richness of the glaze.
Note that cooking times may vary depending on thigh size; verifying doneness with a cut slit is recommended. Adjust baking longer for larger thighs to achieve the desired golden crust and cooked interior.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 - 2 lbs (750-900g) chicken thighs
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 dashes cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Clean and rinse the chicken thighs, then pat them dry with paper towels. Score the bottom of the chicken thighs by cutting 3 slits across the meat. This will ensure that the honey garlic marinade penetrates the chicken.
- Transfer the chicken thighs to a baking pan. Add the olive oil to the chicken and coat it evenly. Rub the minced garlic onto the chicken, ensuring some of the garlic gets inside the slits of the meat.
- Add the honey, salt, and cayenne pepper. Stir and mix well with the chicken. Cover the chicken with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Uncover the foil and continue to bake for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the skin turns golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
Notes
- For larger chicken thighs, extend baking time after uncovering to ensure proper doneness and browning.
- Check doneness by cutting into the center of a thigh to confirm it is fully cooked.
