Baked Cod Recipe
Description
The Baked Cod Recipe involves seasoning a cod fillet with salt, pepper, and minced garlic before coating it with melted butter or ghee. Lemon slices placed on top impart brightness during baking. The fish is cooked in the oven at 400°F for 8 to 10 minutes, depending on thickness, until the flesh flakes easily with a fork, indicating doneness.
This method yields moist, flaky cod with a mild garlic and lemon aroma complemented by rich butter notes. The straightforward approach highlights the fish’s natural texture without overpowering seasonings.
This cod can be served with fresh parsley garnish and pairs well with vegetables, grains, or salads. The recipe allows adjustments such as adding cayenne or paprika for extra spice, and it can be scaled up by increasing fillet quantity. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to three days.
Ingredients
- 1 cod fillet about ⅓ pounds
- pinch salt sea salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic minced
- 2 tbsp butter or ghee, melted
- lemon sliced
- parsley optional garnish, fresh
Instructions
- First, preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Pat cod fillet dry. Season on both sides with salt, pepper and minced garlic.
- Pour melted butter all over cod.
- Place cod in a baking pan. Top with sliced lemon.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes depending on the thickness. To test doneness, insert fork into fish. Twist. If the fish easily flakes, it is done.
- Finally, remove from oven. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
- Use fresh or fully thawed cod fillets around 1/3 pound for best cooking times; larger pieces require additional baking time.
- Add cayenne powder or paprika before baking for a spicier flavor profile if desired.
- Fish is perfectly done when it flakes easily when tested with a fork.
- Store any leftovers in the refrigerator and consume within three days for freshness and safety.
- This recipe can be doubled or tripled depending on your serving needs.
