Description
Baked Italian Herb Tofu uses extra-firm tofu cut into slabs and soaked in a marinade combining liquid aminos, olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic powder, dried basil, rosemary, oregano, and freshly ground black pepper. Pressing the tofu before marinating helps it absorb the flavors. Baking at 400ºF caramelizes the marinated surface while setting the texture. Baking for 30 minutes yields a softer tofu, while 40 minutes delivers a chewier bite. Flipping halfway ensures even cooking and flavor distribution.
This herb-infused baked tofu can be served as a standalone protein or added to salads, pasta, or sandwiches. The seasoning lends a savory depth that complements various side dishes. Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons liquid aminos I used coconut aminos
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
- 1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon basil dried
- ½ teaspoon rosemary dried
- ½ teaspoon oregano dried
- black pepper a dash, freshly ground
- 1 extra-firm tofu 15-ounce package, pressed for 30 minutes, cut into 8 slabs
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Whisk together the liquid aminos, oil, water, vinegar, garlic powder, herbs, and pepper in a small baking dish. Place the tofu slices in the baking dish and marinate for 30 minutes, turning the slices over after 15 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 400ºF. Transfer the tofu slices to a baking sheet that's been lined with parchment paper or sprayed with cooking spray. Rub any remaining marinade onto the tofu and season with a few sprinkles of salt. For softer baked tofu, bake for 30 minutes; for chewier tofu, bake for 40 minutes. Flip the tofu over halfway through cooking time.
