Baked Kale Chips
Description
This recipe uses fresh kale leaves with ribs removed, cut into bite-sized pieces and washed thoroughly. After drying the kale completely, it is tossed with olive oil and spread on a parchment-lined baking sheet. The kale is baked at 325°F for about 10-12 minutes, turning halfway to ensure even crisping without burning. A sprinkle of sea salt finishes the chips once out of the oven.
The results are light, fragile chips with a tender, crisp bite and a mild olive oil flavor complemented by the salt. These chips make a nutritious snack with the rich nutrient profile of kale while delivering satisfying texture similar to potato chips.
Leftover kale chips can be stored in an airtight container but will lose crispness after a day or so at room temperature. Refrigeration extends freshness but may soften the texture. Best eaten soon after baking for maximum crunch.
Ingredients
- 1 bunch kale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon salt sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F, and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Using a knife or kitchen shears, carefully remove the ribs from the kale and cut into bite sized pieces. Wash and thoroughly dry the kale with a salad spinner.
- Lay kale on a baking sheet and toss with the olive oil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until crisp, turning the leaves halfway through. Sprinkle with salt as soon as you remove them from the oven.
Notes
- Store leftover kale chips in an airtight container at room temperature and consume within one day for best crispness.
- Refrigerate leftovers up to 3-4 days, though chips may lose their crisp texture in the fridge.
