  • 1/2 pound mostaccioli pasta penne or ziti, dry
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese whole milk
  • 3 cloves garlic , minced
  • 1 small white onion , chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt fine sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper ground
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese , shredded
  • 3-4 cups sausage drained and cut into bite-size pieces, cooked
  • 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese , grated and divided
  • cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and coat a large casserole dish with cooking spray.
  2. Cook the pasta al dente according to package instructions, drain and set aside. If you are making the pasta ahead of time, toss with 2 teaspoons olive oil to prevent sticking and drying out.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the ricotta cheese, garlic, onion, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and parmesan cheese.
  4. To the ricotta mixture, add the cooked pasta, sausage, marinara sauce and 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese. When combined, pour into prepared casserole dish.
  5. Top with remaining 1 cup mozzarella cheese.
  6. Bake, uncovered, for 25-30 minutes or until top cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Remove and serve hot or wait until fully cooled before covering and refrigerating or freezing.
