Baked Seasoned Pita Chips

Baked Seasoned Pita Chips are crispy, triangular pieces of pita bread brushed with olive oil and Italian seasoning, then baked until golden brown. Seasoned with salt and black pepper, these chips offer a crunchy snack option that can be flavored with various seasonings. They are light yet flavorful, making them a versatile accompaniment to dips or a standalone bite. Preparing them at home allows customization of spices and freshness, stored easily for up to five days in an airtight container.

Description

Baked Seasoned Pita Chips start with pita bread cut into wedges and coated with a mixture of extra virgin olive oil and Italian seasoning. Baking them at 400 degrees Fahrenheit creates a crisp texture with lightly browned edges. The seasoning blend adds herbal and slight spicy notes, while salt and black pepper enhance their flavor. Their crunchiness makes them ideal as a snack or served alongside dips like hummus or salsa.

The straightforward baking method ensures the chips maintain a consistent texture without becoming greasy. Brushing the olive oil mixture evenly on rough sides exposes more surface for crisping. This process results in a chip that is firm yet not hard, pleasant for snacking or dipping.

This recipe allows substitution of Italian seasoning with other blends like cinnamon and sugar for a different flavor profile, emphasizing its adaptability. Storing them in an airtight container preserves the crispness for several days, fitting well into make-ahead snack plans.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 pieces pita bread
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • salt
  • black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut each pita bread into 8 triangles and separate each triangle at the fold. Arrange the pita wedges, rough side up, on a lined baking sheet.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil and italian seasoning. Brush each triangle with oil mixture. Season with salt and pepper, as desired. Bake in a preheated oven for about 7 to 8 minutes or until lightly browned and crispy. Remove from oven and let cool completely. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • You can replace Italian seasoning with other spice blends such as cinnamon and sugar for a sweet variation.
  • Ensure pita triangles are separated at the folds to crisp evenly during baking.
  • Store the baked chips in an airtight container to maintain crunchiness for up to 5 days.
