Baked Sweet Potato Donuts

The Baked Sweet Potato Donuts recipe uses mashed sweet potatoes combined with warming spices, all-purpose flour, and leavening agents to create tender, moist donuts baked in a donut pan. A maple browned butter glaze, optionally topped with chopped pecans, adds a richer, sweet finish with subtle caramel notes. This recipe delivers a cake-like donut suited for breakfast or snacks.

Description

Baked Sweet Potato Donuts are made by mixing mashed sweet potatoes with flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, baking soda, salt, brown sugar, melted butter, vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. The batter is spooned into well-greased donut pans and baked until springy to the touch. The result is a soft, moist donut with spices complementing sweet potato's natural sweetness.

The accompanying glaze is prepared by browning butter to develop a nutty aroma, then whisking in brown sugar, milk, maple syrup, powdered sugar, vanilla, and optional maple flavor. This glaze coats the cooled donuts providing a sweet, richly flavored topping. Chopped pecans can add crunch and texture.

These donuts are appropriate for a morning treat or afternoon snack. They offer an alternative to fried donuts by being baked, maintaining a tender crumb without excess oil. The spice mix integrates well for an autumnal flavor.
