Baked Sweet Potatoes
Description
Baked Sweet Potatoes require washing whole tubers and patting them dry before poking holes in the skin to allow steam to escape during cooking. A light coating of olive oil along with a sprinkling of salt and black pepper seasons the skin and contributes to a slight crispiness once baked. They are placed on a baking sheet and roasted at 375°F for 50 to 60 minutes until tender when pierced.
The result is a soft interior that contrasts with a slightly firm, well-oiled, and seasoned skin. This method allows the natural flavors to develop without additional complexity, offering a versatile side to many dishes or a base for toppings such as butter, herbs, or spices.
After baking, it is advised to let the sweet potatoes cool for about five minutes before cutting open to allow the flesh to set slightly. Leftover baked sweet potatoes can be kept in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to four days and reheated in the microwave when needed for convenience.
