Baked Whole Chicken
Description
The chicken is rubbed thoroughly inside and out with a blend of salt, garlic powder, and parsley or other herbs of choice. Marinating for several hours or overnight allows the seasonings to penetrate the meat, improving flavor and juiciness.
Baking is done at a relatively high temperature of 425°F on a foil-lined sheet with a stand to keep the chicken upright. This setup helps even cooking and crispy skin on all sides. The cooking time is estimated as about 10 minutes per pound plus additional minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F, ensuring safe doneness and juicy texture.
The resulting roast chicken offers golden brown skin with well-seasoned, tender meat throughout. Adjusting seasonings or herbs can personalize the flavor profile for individual preferences.
Using a stand to elevate the bird during roasting promotes moistness and even heat circulation. Monitoring the internal temperature is important for perfect doneness. For a 5.25-pound chicken, around 52-55 minutes baking time achieved the right result in this case.
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken (5.25 pounds)
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon parsley (you can use other herbs)
Instructions
- In a container, add 1 tablespoon of salt, 2 teaspoons of garlic powder and 1 teaspoon of parsley. Then, mix it well. (You can use other herbs if you want).
- Rub the seasoning on the chicken and inside. The best to let it marinate overnight. If not, at least a few hours before baking.
- Preheat the oven for 425F. Then, put foil on the cookie sheet and the stand on the cookie sheet.
- After that, put the whole chicken on the stand and up straight.
- The chicken in this recipe is 5.25 pounds. Therefore, I start baking the chicken for around 50 minutes first until the chicken internal temperature reaches 165F and the skin is golden brown. I did it in around 52-55 minutes.
Notes
- Marinate the chicken overnight or at least a few hours for better flavor penetration.
- Roast the chicken upright on a stand to promote moist, evenly cooked meat.
- Adjust seasonings or herbs as desired to customize flavor.
- Estimate roasting time based on 10 minutes per pound plus extra, checking the internal temperature of 165°F to ensure doneness.
- For this 5.25-pound chicken, roasting took approximately 52-55 minutes at 425°F.
