Baked Ziti One Pan Pasta
Description
This recipe starts by browning ground beef in an oven-safe skillet, then draining excess fat. A jar of thick roasted garlic pasta sauce and water are added to the beef along with salt and cracked black pepper. The mixture is brought to a boil before adding ziti pasta, which cooks covered over low heat until tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
Meanwhile, ricotta, fresh mozzarella, grated Parmesan cheese, and an egg are whisked together to form a rich cheese blend. Once the pasta is cooked, half of this cheese mixture is mixed into the pasta sauce, and the remaining cheese is layered on top. The skillet is placed in a very hot oven to bake for 5 to 10 minutes, allowing the top cheese to melt and develop a golden-brown crust.
The finished dish combines tender pasta with meaty sauce and melted cheeses, providing a creamy texture with a finished baked crust. It can be served immediately straight from the skillet, offering a simple, comforting meal all prepared in one pan.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef lean
- 1 ragu homestyle thick & hearty roasted garlic sauce jar
- 3 C water
- 8 oz ziti pasta
- kosher salt to taste
- black pepper to taste, cracked
- 1 C ricotta cheese
- ½ C fresh mozzarella ripped into small pieces
- ½ C Parmesan Cheese grated, fresh
- 1 egg
Instructions
- In a large, oven-proof skillet over high heat, add the ground beef and cook, crumbling as it cooks, until browned, around 5 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Add the Ragu sauce and water and stir to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then bring mixture to a boil, add the ziti pasta and return to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to low, and allow to simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the pasta is tender, stirring occasionally.
- Preheat oven to 500 degrees. While the pasta is cooking, add the ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan, and egg to a small bowl and whisk thoroughly to combine.
- When the pasta is tender, stir half of the cheese mixture into the sauce, then layer the remaining on top. Place in the oven and allow to bake for 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese on top starts to melt and brown. Remove from oven and serve immediately.
