Yang Chow Fried Rice Recipe

Yang Chow Fried Rice is a classic Chinese-style fried rice made by stir-frying chilled cooked white rice with shrimp, barbecued pork, eggs, green peas, and green onions, seasoned with soy sauce, garlic, and ginger. The rice grains stay separate with a savory flavor balanced by tender shrimp and pork chunks. It’s a flavorful and satisfying dish that works well as a main or side.

Description

This recipe starts by sautéing minced ginger and garlic in oil to infuse the base with aromatic flavor. Shrimp are briefly cooked before being removed to keep them tender. Beaten eggs are then scrambled in the pan and mixed into the rice, adding richness and binding the grains. The pre-cooked rice is combined with soy sauce, sugar, salt, and the savory ingredients like diced barbecued pork and green peas.

The dish is cooked until all components are heated through and flavors meld, then finished by stirring in chopped green onions for freshness and mild sharpness. The resulting Yang Chow Fried Rice features distinct rice grains with a balance of savory and slightly sweet seasoning, complemented by juicy shrimp and savory pork.

Serve this fried rice as a standalone meal or alongside other Chinese dishes. It’s a popular choice for home cooking and takeout menus alike.
