Balsamic Roasted Brussel Sprouts
Description
Balsamic Roasted Brussel Sprouts start with fresh sprouts trimmed and halved to expose the inner layers. They are tossed with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and black pepper, then arranged cut side down on a baking sheet. Roasting at 400°F allows the sprouts to caramelize and brown on the exposed sides, creating a crisp texture while the inside remains tender.
The balsamic vinegar adds a subtle sweetness and tang that complements the natural earthiness of the brussels sprouts. Adjusting the cooking time for frozen sprouts requires thawing and a longer bake to reach comparable texture.
For variation, sprinkling Parmesan cheese after roasting can add richness and color.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Brussels sprouts trimmed and cut in half lengthwise, fresh
- 3 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees
- Wash fresh brussel sprouts and trim the ends off a little.
- Slice them in half (from the end to tip)
- Place them in a bowl and add the vinegar, oil and pepper
- Toss lightly and place on a baking sheet, cut side down
- Bake for 20 minutes, tossing once.
Notes
- Frozen brussels sprouts can be used; thaw and drain excess water before roasting and extend bake time to 30-40 minutes.
- Adding a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese right after roasting provides a richer flavor.
