Bang Bang Salmon Bites (Air Fryer)
Description
The recipe begins by making a Bang Bang sauce combining mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, honey, lemon juice, sriracha, and water, which is refrigerated to thicken. The salmon filets, skinless, are cut into roughly 1-inch cubes, then coated with a dry seasoning blend of paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. After patting dry and spraying with cooking spray, the bites are cooked in an air fryer at 400°F for 5-7 minutes, shaking halfway to ensure even cooking.
The air fryer crisps the outside of the salmon bites while keeping the interior moist. The homemade Bang Bang sauce provides a creamy, spicy, slightly sweet flavor that complements the salmon’s natural richness. The dish is suitable for appetizers or casual meals.
Storage notes recommend refrigerating leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days and reheating in the air fryer at 350°F for around 3 minutes, shaking halfway through. Ensuring the salmon is fully thawed before cooking and cutting uniform pieces helps even cooking. Patting salmon dry before seasoning improves flavor adherence.
Ingredients
- 1 lb. salmon skinless, filets
- 1 Tbsp paprika sweet
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
Bang Bang Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise light, 120g
- 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce 60g
- 1.5 tsp honey
- 1.5 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp sriracha can add 1-2 tsp more more if you want it spicier
- 1 Tbsp water (more or less depending on if you want it as a sauce or more like a dressing)
Instructions
- Make the sauce: Whisk together all the ingredients in a bowl or shake in a mason jar. Store in the fridge until ready to use. Dressing will thicken with time; To make it thinner, just shake with a little more water until desired consistency.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F. Whisk the seasoning mix together in a small bowl.
- Pat the salmon dry with a paper towel and cut into 1-inch cubes. Add salmon bites to a bowl and spray with cooking spray so all sides are coated. Add the seasoning mix and toss with the salmon bites to evenly coat.
- Spray air fryer basket with cooking spray. Add the salmon bites to the air fryer basket in an even layer and cook for 5-7 minutes, tossing halfway through, or until the salmon is no longer pink.
Notes
- Store leftover salmon bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
- Reheat salmon bites in the air fryer at 350°F for about 3 minutes, shaking once halfway through.
- Ensure salmon is fully thawed before cooking; thaw overnight in the refrigerator or in cold water in a sealed bag for 30 minutes.
- Pat salmon dry thoroughly to help seasoning and oil stick better during cooking.
- Cut salmon into even 1-inch cubes for consistent cooking.
- Shake or flip salmon bites halfway through air frying for even crispness.
- Avoid overcooking to maintain salmon’s tenderness and moisture.
