Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 lb. Shrimp peeled, deveined, and tails removed
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ black pepper powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Panko bread crumbs
  • 1 Tbsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • oil for frying
  • cilantro Chopped for garnishing

BANG BANG SAUCE:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp Sriracha
  • 2 Tbsp Sweet chili sauce

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl season the shrimp with salt and pepper.
  2. Place all-purpose flour, beaten egg, and Panko bread crumbs in three separate bowls. Mix old bay seasoning into the panko.
  3. Working with one shrimp at a time, dip the shrimp in the flour, shake off the excess flour then dip it in the egg and then coat it in the bread crumbs, repeat the process for a second time to make it extra crunchy.
  4. Coat all the shrimp and let them rest for 5 minutes.
  5. In a pan fill oil (about 2 -2 ½ inches deep) and heat to around 375 F. Place 9-10 pieces of shrimp in the hot oil and fry the shrimp on medium flame until crisp, golden, and evenly cooked from inside (about 2-3 minutes). Just make sure not to overcook as that might turn shrimp rubbery and chewy.
  6. Remove the shrimp from the oil and drain the excess oil using a paper towel.
  7. Next, mix all the ingredients under bang bang sauce.
  8. Garnish hot crispy shrimp with chopped cilantro and serve with bang bang sauce on the side OR pour the sauce over the fried shrimp and toss properly.

Notes

  • It’s best to consume BANG BANG SHRIMP immediately. However, you can store the leftover fried shrimps and bang bang sauce separately in an air-tight container for 3-4 days in the refrigerator. (Do not coat it with sauce while storing). To reheat, warm the shrimp gently in the microwave in 30-sec intervals; make sure not to overcook.
  • Freezing is not recommended.
  • This bang bang shrimp recipe is extremely versatile; you can serve it as an appetizer with bang bang sauce on the side OR you can fill the shrimp with crunchy veggies in tacos and drizzle bang bang sauce over them OR you can toss the shrimp and sauce with your favorite pasta OR just serve them over rice for a perfect quick meal.
  • You can use 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning instead of old bay seasoning if you want.
  • Make sure the oil is at an appropriate temperature. Too hot and the shrimp might burn and overcook; too cold and the shrimp might absorb excess oil and become greasy.
  • Prefer using small or medium-sized shrimp in the recipe. Keep in mind that cooking time might vary depending on the size of the shrimp so, watch your shrimp carefully as they cook and take them out from the oil as soon as they turn golden brown.
  • You can use fresh or frozen shrimp (defrosted and dried). If using frozen shrimp just make sure that they are not precooked.
