Bang Bang Shrimp
Description
To make Bang Bang Shrimp, shrimp are first dipped in a buttermilk mixture seasoned with flour, cornstarch, egg, hot sauce, salt, and pepper. They are then dredged in a panko breadcrumb blend with onion powder, garlic powder, dried basil and oregano, seasoned with salt and pepper. The shrimp fry quickly in hot vegetable oil until evenly golden and crisp, preserving a tender interior.
The accompanying sauce combines mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, honey, and rice vinegar, producing a creamy, sweet, and slightly tangy coating that complements the crisp shrimp. The spicy notes from hot sauce in the batter and sweet chili sauce provide well-rounded flavor without overpowering the shrimp.
This dish is best served immediately after frying and saucing to maintain crispiness and freshness. As an appetizer, it pairs nicely with light sides or can be part of a main meal with rice or greens.
