Basil Pesto with Walnuts

Basil Pesto with Walnuts combines fresh basil leaves and chopped walnuts blended with garlic, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil into a creamy, flavorful sauce. The walnuts provide a slightly different nutty flavor compared to traditional pine nuts. This pesto is versatile as a sauce for pasta, a spread, or a topping that adds fresh herbaceous notes and rich texture to various dishes.

Description

The recipe begins by pulsing fresh basil and chopped walnuts together until they break down but still retain some texture. Garlic and Parmesan cheese are added next and blended into the herb-nut mixture. The process involves occasionally stopping to scrape down the sides to ensure even mixing. Olive oil is slowly incorporated while blending to create an emulsified sauce. Seasoning with salt and black pepper completes the pesto.

This preparation results in a bright green pesto with a balanced nutty and cheesy flavor accented by garlic. The chopped walnuts lend a slightly different richness than typical pine nut pesto, while the Parmesan adds savory depth. This basil pesto is fresh and adaptable for use as a pasta sauce, a spread on bread, or an addition to grilled meats and vegetables.

The recipe uses common fresh ingredients and straightforward blending steps, making it easy to prepare at home. It showcases how swapping walnuts into a classic basil pesto creates a unique variation worth trying.
