BBQ Chicken Pizza
Description
The BBQ Chicken Pizza combines a hand-stretched pizza dough spread with tangy barbecue sauce and layered with chopped chicken breast, shredded mozzarella, and smoked Gouda. Thinly sliced red onions provide a mild sharpness that complements the rich cheeses. The pizzas bake until the crust becomes browned and crispy, and the cheese melts into a bubbly, slightly golden layer. Once out of the oven, fresh cilantro adds a herbaceous element that contrasts with the smoky barbecue flavor.
This pizza can be sliced into pieces suitable for sharing or serving as a main dish. The blend of cheeses along with the barbecue sauce makes it adaptable to casual meals or an easy entertaining option. The use of smoked Gouda brings a creamy texture and smoky depth that pairs well with the chicken topping.
Flouring the work surface before rolling out the dough helps prevent tears or breaks, ensuring a uniform pizza base. Cooking on floured baking sheets supports crisp edges without sticking. Slice and serve immediately for the best texture and warmth.
Ingredients
- 1 pound pizza dough
- all-purpose flour for dusting
- ½ cup barbecue sauce
- 1 cup chicken breast chopped
- ¾ cup mozzarella cheese shredded
- ½ cup smoked Gouda cheese shredded
- ¼ red onion thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons cilantro chopped
Instructions
- Set the pizza dough out for 30 minutes to come to room temperature.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F and dust two baking sheets with flour.
- Dust a work surface with flour. Divide the pizza dough into two smaller dough balls. Stretch or roll each dough ball into a 9-inch circle and transfer to the prepared baking sheets. Spread each dough circle with ¼ cup barbecue sauce, leaving a ½-inch rim around the edge. Top each with the chopped chicken, then the mozzarella cheese, and Gouda cheese. Scatter the sliced red onion across the top of each.
- Bake the pizzas until they are browned and crispy around the edges and the cheese is bubbling in the center, about 15-20 minutes.
- Remove the pizzas from the oven and sprinkle each chopped cilantro.
- Slice each pizza into 6 pieces and serve.
Notes
- Flour your board before rolling out the pizza dough to prevent sticking and tearing.
