BBQ Chicken Thighs
Description
Get the Recipe: BBQ Chicken Thighs uses boneless, skinless chicken thighs seasoned simply with sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. The chicken is brushed with BBQ sauce before baking at a high temperature, enhancing browning and cooking evenly.
The cooking method employs a two-stage baking process where the chicken is coated with half the BBQ sauce and baked for 20 minutes, then brushed again with remaining sauce and returned to the oven for 15 to 20 minutes longer. This layering imbues the chicken with flavorful barbecue glaze while keeping the meat tender and moist.
Serve these BBQ chicken thighs as a main dish with sides like grilled vegetables, coleslaw, or corn on the cob. They can also be sliced for sandwiches or salads, making them versatile for casual meals.
Adjust seasoning amounts as desired, avoid crowding the baking dish to ensure even cooking, and check doneness with a meat thermometer reading 165°F. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to four days.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds chicken thigh boneless, skinless
- ½ tsp salt sea salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- 1 cup BBQ sauce divided
Instructions
- First, preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a baking dish with nonstick spray.
- Pat chicken dry with paper towels. Season on both sides with sea salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder.
- Brush chicken with ½ cup BBQ sauce on both sides. Place chicken in dish.
- Bake for 20 minutes. Then, remove pan from oven. Brush chicken with remaining ½ cup BBQ sauce. Return pan to oven to bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes.

- Adjust seasoning quantities according to taste preferences.
- Do not overcrowd the baking dish to allow even cooking and browning.
- Any type of BBQ sauce can be used depending on flavor preference.
- Use a meat thermometer to confirm the chicken reaches 165°F internal temperature for safety.
- Store leftover chicken in the refrigerator and consume within 4 days.
