Beef Broth Brown Gravy
Description
The Beef Broth Brown Gravy combines beef broth with garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce to develop a deep, savory flavor. Thickened with cornstarch mixed into cold water, the gravy reaches a smooth, slightly glossy texture. Seasoned with salt and black pepper, this gravy complements proteins and sides by adding moisture and meaty notes without overpowering.
It pairs well atop meats like roast beef or grilled steak and enhances mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables. The warm, thick sauce adds a comforting richness to meals.
This recipe yields about 2 cups but can be easily scaled up for larger servings by using a bigger saucepan. Adjust seasoning after thickening for best flavor balance.
Ingredients
- 2 cups beef broth (you can also use beef dripping from a roast)
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce optional
- ¼ cup water cold water plus 3 tablespoons corn starch
- ¼ cup corn starch cold water plus 3 tablespoons corn starch
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a medium sauce pan bring beef broth to boil over medium-high heat. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, and worcestershire sauce.
- In a small bowl whisk together cold water and corn starch until dissolved. Pour into boiling beef broth and reduce heat to medium-low. Stir until thickened.
- Season with salt and pepper. Taste, add more salt and pepper if needed, and taste again to make sure it's just right. Serve hot over your favorite meats or potatoes.
Notes
- This recipe makes approximately 2 cups of gravy; adjust quantities proportionally for larger amounts.
- Cold water mixed with cornstarch ensures a lump-free gravy when added to the hot broth.
- Season to taste after thickening; you may want more salt or pepper depending on your broth.
