Best Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips

Ingredients

  • 2 cups bananas, very ripe, mashed about four bananas
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chopped, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease and flour bottom and sides of nonstick loaf pan. Set aside.
  3. Combine flour, sugar, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Set aside.
  4. In another bowl combine mashed bananas, sour cream, eggs, butter, and vanilla with a wooden spoon.
  5. Gently fold banana mixture into flour mixture until just combined and batter looks thick and chunky.
  6. Using a spatula pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
  7. Bake until loaf is golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean, about 60-65 minutes.
  8. Cool in pan for at least 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Temperature matters: Start with room temperature eggs and cool melted butter for this recipe. This helps everything mix nicely and you’ll have the perfect texture you’re looking for without overmixing.
  • Choose right: Remember to choose soft, overripe bananas here. They should ideally have brown spots on the peel and should feel soft to touch. These will be much sweeter than regular bananas, and have the perfect texture which we need to make a moist chocolate chip banana bread. 
  • Don’t overmix: This one’s an important step with almost all baked goodies. Mix the batter just until all the ingredients are well combined, and avoid overmixing the it.
