Best Cinnamon Roll Icing
Description
Best Cinnamon Roll Icing begins by melting butter carefully until golden brown, imparting a subtle nutty note. The melted butter is then mixed with softened cream cheese to create a fluffy base. Powdered sugar is gradually added with milk to form a smooth, spreadable consistency suited to topping cinnamon rolls. Vanilla extract adds a familiar, sweet aroma, and the milk adjusts the icing's thickness to preference.
This icing offers a creamy sweetness with a slight tang from the cream cheese, contrasting nicely against the spicy cinnamon filling of the rolls. Spreading it while the rolls are still warm allows it to melt slightly and create a luscious coating.
You can vary the flavor by substituting almond extract for vanilla to add a different aromatic note to the icing. The quantity makes enough to generously cover 12 to 16 cinnamon rolls, suitable for family-sized batches.
The icing can be stored chilled in an airtight container for up to five days, making it convenient for advance preparation or leftovers.
