Best Cranberry Salsa
Description
The recipe involves finely chopping fresh cranberries in a food processor to create a coarse, textured base. Adding sliced green onions and minced jalapeños introduces sharp and spicy layers, while fresh cilantro offers herbaceous brightness. Grated ginger contributes a subtle, aromatic pungency that enhances complexity. The mixture is bound together by lemon juice and granulated sugar, balancing the tartness of cranberries with acidity and sweetness.
The salsa is refrigerated to allow flavors to meld and mellow; initially quite tart, it develops richer taste over time. This makes it a versatile accompaniment that can be served with tortilla chips for snacking or spooned over softened cream cheese to create a flavorful spread for crackers.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces cranberries
- 1/4 cup green onion sliced
- 2 medium jalapeños minced
- 1/4 cup cilantro minced, fresh leaves
- 2 tablespoons ginger grated
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
Instructions
- Rinse and drain the cranberries, picking over them to discard any that are soft or bruised. Place the cranberries in a food processor or blender and pulse until finely chopped but not mushy.
- Transfer the chopped cranberries to a bowl. Add the green onions, jalapeños, cilantro, and ginger. Pour the lemon juice and sugar over the mixture and stir until evenly combined.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate and allow flavors to develop. It will be a bit tart to begin with, but as it is allowed to sit it will develop even more flavor.
- Serve as a salsa with tortilla chips or spooned over softened cream cheese with crackers.
