Best Ever Bean Bake

The Best Ever Bean Bake combines ground beef, chopped onion, and diced bacon cooked together and mixed with a blend of kidney beans, pork and beans, and butter beans. This hearty casserole is flavored with brown sugar, ketchup, BBQ sauce, molasses, and mustard then baked until bubbling and browned at the edges.

Description

This bean bake starts by cooking bacon until crisp, then using the bacon fat to sauté onions and ground beef until browned and well combined. The mixture is combined with three types of canned beans—kidney, pork and beans, and butter beans—in a slow cooker or casserole dish. The savory meat and beans are balanced by sweet and tangy elements, including brown sugar, ketchup, BBQ sauce, molasses, and mustard, stirred in to create a rich sauce coating the ingredients.

The assembled bake is cooked in an oven at 350°F for 40 minutes to an hour, or on high in a slow cooker for 4 hours, until it is hot, bubbly, and lightly browned around the edges. The resulting dish offers a comforting mix of smoky, sweet, and umami flavors with varied textures from the meats and beans, suitable as a main or side dish.
