Best Ever Funeral Potatoes
Description
This casserole starts with frozen diced hash browns mixed with sour cream, cream of chicken soup, sautéed onions, cheddar cheese, and seasonings, creating a rich and creamy base. The melted butter mixed into the hash browns enhances moisture and flavor. The mixture is placed in a buttered casserole dish.
A layer of crushed corn flakes tossed with melted butter is sprinkled on top, which crisps up in the oven to provide a crunchy textural contrast to the soft interior. Baking uncovered at 350°F for 40-45 minutes melds the flavors and develops a golden crust.
Served warm, this dish functions well as a hearty side or main for family meals or potlucks. Its comforting, creamy combination of potatoes, cheese, and onions with a crisp corn flake topping has earned it its name in traditional comfort food circles.
