Best Hamburger Recipe
Description
This hamburger recipe starts by mixing ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, black pepper, and seasoned salt, ensuring the seasonings are evenly distributed without overmixing to maintain a tender texture. Patties are shaped about three-quarters of an inch thick with an indentation pressed into the center to prevent bulging during cooking.
The patties are cooked on a preheated grill or cast-iron pan, roughly 3 to 3.5 minutes per side for medium doneness at around 140°F internal temperature. Toasted brioche buns are used to assemble the burger, which can be garnished with lettuce, tomato, cheese, pickles, onion, bacon, and avocado according to preference.
Checking the internal temperature is recommended to achieve desired doneness, with guides provided for medium-rare to medium-well. Patties can be prepared ahead and refrigerated or frozen with appropriate separation to avoid sticking. Leftovers should be stored in airtight containers and consumed within days for freshness.
Ingredients
- 1½ pounds ground beef 80% lean/20% fat; or ground chuck
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1½ teaspoons garlic minced
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1½ teaspoons seasoned salt
- 4 brioche bun toasted
Toppings
- lettuce optional, sliced
- tomato
- cheese
- pickle
- onion
- Bacon
- avocado
Instructions
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat or to 375°F.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and pepper. Mix with your hands until just combined (do not overmix).
- Divide the mixture into fourths and shape into patties using your hands. The patties should be about ¾ inch thick. Use the back of a spoon to make an indent in the middle of each patty to keep it from puffing up too much in the middle while cooking. Sprinkle patties with seasoned salt.
- Add burgers to the grill and cook for 3–3 ½ minutes per side until the internal temperature reaches about 140°F for a medium burger.
- Place each burger on a toasted bun and serve with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- Use a meat thermometer to check doneness: 130°F for medium-rare, 140°F for medium, 150°F for medium-well.
- For pan-frying, use a cast-iron skillet with olive oil heated over high heat to achieve a golden crust.
- Shape patties ahead and store covered in the refrigerator for 1-2 days or freeze for up to 4 months separated by wax paper.
- Store leftover cooked burgers in airtight containers in the refrigerator up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 4 months.
