Best One-Bowl Chocolate Cake Recipe

This chocolate cake combines dry ingredients with buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla to create a moist, tender crumb. Adding boiling water to the batter lightens the texture, resulting in a smooth cake base before baking. It's topped with a creamy chocolate frosting made from butter, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy cream, offering rich and balanced chocolate flavor.

Description

Best One-Bowl Chocolate Cake Recipe features a blend of all-purpose flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and baking powder combined with buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. The batter is finished by mixing in boiling water, which loosens it for a tender cake. This batter is baked in either a 9x13-inch pan or two 9-inch round pans until a toothpick comes out clean. The cake must cool completely before frosting.

The frosting is made by creaming softened salted butter with cocoa powder and salt, then gradually incorporating powdered sugar and heavy cream for a smooth, spreadable chocolate topping. The frosting adds richness and moisture to the cake, complementing the tender crumb underneath.

This chocolate cake serves well as a dessert for gatherings or special occasions and can be made in advance. Cooling the cake completely before frosting ensures the frosting doesn't melt and maintains a smooth finish.
