Bisquick Sausage Balls

Bisquick Sausage Balls mix pork sausage, sharp cheddar cheese, and Bisquick baking mix into hand-formed balls baked until golden and cooked through. These bite-sized savory snacks have a crisp exterior with a soft, cheesy interior. They are convenient to prepare ahead and work well warm or at room temperature as appetizers or snacks.

Description

To prepare Bisquick Sausage Balls, room temperature pork sausage is combined with grated sharp cheddar cheese and Bisquick baking mix, integrating a small amount of milk to bind the dough. The mixture is rolled into golf ball-sized portions and baked at 350°F until golden brown and cooked through, usually about 20-25 minutes.

The resulting sausage balls feature a balance of juicy sausage flavor and sharp, melted cheese within a tender yet structured exterior. The Bisquick mix gives a biscuit-like crumb that supports the filling without heaviness.

These sausage balls are commonly served as finger foods for gatherings or snacks and can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature. Their compact shape makes them easy to serve and eat.

The recipe allows for preparing and baking ahead of time or making the raw balls in advance and baking them shortly before serving, supporting flexible timing for events. They store well in the refrigerator and can also be frozen for longer preservation.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 lb. pork sausage at room temperature (I use Country Mild Jimmy Dean sausage, bulk, hot or mild is fine
  • 16 ounces cheddar cheese grated (at room temperature, sharp
  • 2 cups Bisquick baking mix
  • up to cup milk as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, use your hands or a rubber spatula to combine all of the ingredients. Add milk, one or two tablespoons at a time, until the mixture holds together.
  2. Roll into golf ball-sized balls (I like to use a 1 ½ -inch dough scoop for this). Arrange on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  3. Bake for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • These sausage balls may be baked ahead, cooled completely, and refrigerated for up to three days or frozen for up to three months.
  • Raw sausage balls can be assembled and kept covered in the refrigerator, then baked fresh before serving.
