BLT Salad
Description
The BLT Salad features a mix of iceberg lettuce for crunch and the heart of romaine for slight bitterness, complemented by ripe tomato chunks or halved cherry tomatoes for juiciness. Crisp cooked bacon adds smoky saltiness, while green onions provide a mild, fresh onion taste. Blue cheese contributes a creamy sharpness, balancing the salad’s flavors.
The dressing combines sour cream or Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, and buttermilk for creaminess and tang, enhanced by fresh lemon juice, granulated sugar, onion powder, dill, and garlic powder for layered seasoning. Tossing the ingredients with this dressing results in a cohesive dish with a satisfying medley of textures and bright flavors.
This salad makes a lighter but flavorful meal option and can be customized with optional additions like diced avocado, chopped boiled eggs, or croutons for added richness and texture. The salad ingredients can be prepared in advance, and pre-cooked bacon speeds assembly. Store washed lettuce dry for up to three days refrigerated to streamline meals.
Ingredients
- ½ head iceberg lettuce chopped
- 1 romaine lettuce chopped, heart
- 2 tablespoons parsley chopped, fresh
- 2 medium tomatoes cut into chunks or 2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved, ripe

- 3 green onions thinly sliced
- ½ cup blue cheese or 1/2 cup shredded cheddar or crumbled feta cheese, crumbled

- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup buttermilk or 2 to 3 tablespoons milk
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice fresh

- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions

Notes
- Pre-cooked bacon or oven-cooked bacon both work for this salad.
- Lettuce can be washed up to three days ahead, shaken dry, and stored in the refrigerator to save prep time.
- Optional additions include diced avocado, chopped boiled eggs, and croutons for extra texture and richness.
- If using store-bought dressings, ranch or blue cheese complement the salad well.
