Blue Cheese Butter
Description
Blue Cheese Butter blends room-temperature butter with crumbled blue cheese, gently mashed together to retain some small cheese chunks for texture. Fresh herbs such as parsley, thyme, rosemary, chives, or a bit of finely minced garlic can be added for herbal notes and complexity. The mixture is shaped into a log using plastic wrap and chilled for a few hours until firm.
This butter keeps refrigerated for the lifetime of the blue cheese used or can be frozen for longer storage. It melts richly over grilled meats or steamed vegetables, imparting sharp, tangy blue cheese flavor in a creamy form. Slightly softened blue cheese allows easy mashing and blending with butter.
Ingredients
- 1 butter at room temperature, unsalted, stick
- 4 ounces blue cheese you can use less if you prefer if you're using a really strong blue cheese like Stilton or Roquefort, at room temperature
- parsley thyme rosemary or chives or some finely minced garlic, optional, chopped fresh herbs such as parsley
Instructions
- Place the butter and blue cheese in a bowl and mash with a fork until thoroughly combined.
- Some tiny chunks of blue cheese is great for texture.
- Scoop the mixture onto some plastic wrap on a flat surface. Roll up the blue cheese butter in the plastic wrap, pressing and forming it into a log.
- Chill for at least a couple of hours before serving. This will keep in the fridge for the life of the blue cheese (check the expiration date) or can be frozen.
