Description
The Blue Cheese Dressing combines sour cream, mayonnaise, and lemon juice with garlic powder and blue cheese to create a smooth, tangy dressing. Half the blue cheese is blended for a creamy texture, while the rest is crumbled into the mixture for bursts of blue cheese flavor in each bite. Stirred in milk thins the dressing to your preferred consistency. This dressing is refrigerated for at least two hours before serving to meld the flavors. It is ideal for salads or as a dip and can be stored up to a week in the fridge. Optional fresh chives add a mild onion note and a touch of color.
Ingredients
- ½ cup sour cream
- ⅓ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice fresh
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ⅓ cup blue cheese divided, crumbled
- 4 to 6 tablespoons milk or buttermilk
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon chives optional, chopped fresh
Instructions
- In a blender or food processor, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, lemon juice, garlic powder, and half of the blue cheese. Pulse until smooth.
- Finely crumble the remaining blue cheese and add it to the dressing with chives if using.
- Stir in milk, a tablespoon at a time, to the desired consistency. Refrigerate at least 2 hours before serving.
- Store in the refrigerator up to 1 week.
Notes
- If you lack a blender or food processor, mix ingredients in a bowl with a hand mixer or spoon, mashing the blue cheese as you stir.
- Lemon juice can be substituted with white wine vinegar for a slightly different acidity.
