Blue Ribbon Award Winning Chili
Description
The recipe begins by browning ground beef and Italian sausage together, draining excess fat before adding kidney beans, pinto beans, diced tomatoes with juice, tomato paste, chopped onions, celery, green and red bell peppers, minced jalapeño, garlic, chopped bacon, beef bouillon cubes, and a robust seasoning blend including chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, cumin, basil, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and brown sugar. The mixture simmers slowly over low heat for 1 to 5 hours, allowing flavors to meld and the chili to thicken.
The resulting chili is thick with a rich texture and a vibrant color, balancing savory meatiness with a touch of heat from the jalapeño and spices. The combination of beans adds variety in texture. Serving this chili with shredded cheddar cheese, garlic dill oyster crackers, and sour cream introduces creamy and crunchy contrasts to the dish.
Adjust the spiciness to preference by modifying or omitting the jalapeño or replacing it with a milder pepper. This control allows customization based on heat tolerance.
